Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town in Maine where she grew up. She graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid everything in Lily’s life suddenly seems almost too good to be true.

Ryle is assertive, stubborn, and maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant and has a total soft spot for Lily; and the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn’t hurt. Lily can’t get him out of her head, but Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his no dating rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place.

As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan, her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.

With this bold and deeply personal novel Colleen Hoover delivers a heart-wrenching story that breaks exciting new ground for her as a writer. Combining a captivating romance with a cast of all too human characters, “It Ends with Us” is an unforgettable tale of love that comes at the ultimate price.

Review: Ramsay by Mia Sheridan

01 aram“Sometimes forgiveness meant letting go. Sometimes forgiveness meant holding on.”

Mia Sheridan is an autobuy for me. Her stories are so unique and always leave me in awe. Her characters are real. Far from perfect, but so very real. And Ramsay definitely fits right in with the rest of them.

Brogan Ramsay came from meager beginnings. He worked hard to provide for his family. But, in an instant, a deception took it all away. He then had to make tough decisions and choices in order to stay alive. But he never forgot who put him in this position. He vowed to pay them back ten fold. Revenge is his goal.

Lydia De Havilland made a mistake that cost her dearly. She has lived with the knowledge all her life and when the chance for redemption comes to her, she’ll do anything she can to get the boy she loved back. No matter how she is treated, she sucks it up and does what she needs to be done, in order to make amends.

Goodness, my heart was aching throughout this story. The heartache. The sheer pain of loss. The actions of loved ones was truly a sight to behold. Love makes you do things that any sane person wouldn’t. Let’s be honest, when you’re in love, you go a little crazy. Brogan did things for love. He spent his entire adult life doing things because he loved.

I read this book in one sitting. I couldn’t tear my eyes from it. I was sucked in and I felt every emotion possible. There were times I wanted to scream and then I wanted to cry. Revenge has a way of making things intense. Intense and passion. Let me tell you. This story has passion. Man, oh man, did it ever. There’s a fine line between love and hate, and this story danced on that line.

“I wake up feeling hungry in that way I promised myself I’d never feel hungry again. Only this hunger can only be satisfied by you, and I’m…I’m not sure what to do about that.”

Review: Bittersweet by Sarina Bowen

01 abit “She and I were a dangerous combination. We needed cautionary signs like the ones hanging in the tractor shed over the cans of diesel fuel. WARNING: COMBUSTIBLE.”

Honestly, this book shocked the crap outta me. I had NO IDEA I was going to like it so much. Who knew farmers would be so sexy? Plus silly thing, like learning some of the ins and outs of organic farming, was quite fascinating to me. Not to mention that this romance was a bit like a second chance romance, which I love, I was completely drawn in and fell for this entire family, extended and non. In fact, I found myself thinking of them, after I was done, forgetting that they weren’t real. In fact, I still am, and it’s been weeks since I’ve read it.

Now that the summer weather is here, I am looking forward to hitting up all those farmer markets and give them my support. Honestly, I never thought, when reading a book, that I would feel this compulsion. Who knows, maybe I’ll see some sexy farmers there. 🙂

Also I was completely taken in my Jude and his story. I can’t wait until the next book to see what happens next in his world. I have a feeling it’s going to be a bit more emotional than this one.

Review: One True Loves by Taylor Jenkins Reid

01 at You can’t capture love in a bottle. You can’t hold on to it with both hands and force it to stay with you.

This is my first Taylor Jenkins Reid book. I’ve heard many people rave about her books, but I just never got around to trying one, since she seems more like chick lit, and that’s not my usual. But I did something out of the norm and read the blurb of this book, and I was immediately punched in the gut. I knew I had to read this.

SYNOPSIS
In her twenties, Emma Blair marries her high school sweetheart, Jesse. They build a life for themselves, far away from the expectations of their parents and the people of their hometown in Massachusetts. They travel the world together, living life to the fullest and seizing every opportunity for adventure.

On their first wedding anniversary, Jesse is on a helicopter over the Pacific when it goes missing. Just like that, Jesse is gone forever.

Emma quits her job and moves home in an effort to put her life back together. Years later, now in her thirties, Emma runs into an old friend, Sam, and finds herself falling in love again. When Emma and Sam get engaged, it feels like Emma’s second chance at happiness.

That is, until Jesse is found. He’s alive, and he’s been trying all these years to come home to her. With a husband and a fiancé, Emma has to now figure out who she is and what she wants, while trying to protect the ones she loves.

Who is her one true love? What does it mean to love truly?

Emma knows she has to listen to her heart. She’s just not sure what it’s saying.

Oh my gosh!! Can you imagine this? What do you do? Here’s this poor girl faced with an impossible decision. He loves both men, but she must choose one. My nerves were all twisted up in this one. One can’t possibly just choose and be done with it. Emma has to learn who she is and what she wants before she can even think about making this choice.

From the very first sentence, I was sucked into this world. I could feel what Emma felt and it broke my heart. After missing her husband for almost three years, all those past feelings come flooding back into her. She must face her past and decide who she wants to spend her future with.

While this isn’t your traditional happily ever after, but rather a bittersweet ending, I am glad to have gone this journey of reflection and growth. I am happy to see Emma face this decision head on. While the journey did make me wince a few times, since I made my own choice, I can see that Emma did what needed to be done in order to make her choice.

There is nothing more romantic than this. Holding the very person that you thought you’d lost, and knowing you’ll never lose them again.

Review: Paper Princess by Erin Watt

01 ar Dude. I am speechless right now. My heart is racing a mile a minute and my hands are shaking. This book was a wild ride and I don’t think I was strapped in tight enough. Whew!

Ella has done what she needed to do to survive. While it wasn’t the wisest choice, it was her only choice. But then Callum Royal plucks her out and take her to his home, with his five sons, claiming he is her guardian. She is thrust into a life that is clearly nothing she’s ever experienced.

I liked Ella’s spunk. I liked her soft side as well. Just because she has taken to the more rougher choices in life doesn’t mean she doesn’t feel or cry. My heart broke a few times right along with her. She is just trying to get through high school unscathed, but these Royal boys aren’t going to make it easy.

This will never by my home. I don’t belong in splendor. I belong in squalor. That’s what I know. It’s what I’m comfortable with, because squalor doesn’t lie to you. It’s not wrapped in a pretty package. It is what it is.
This house is an illusion. It’s polished and pretty, but the dream Callum is trying to sell is as flimsy as paper. Nothing stays shiny forever in this world.

This book is definitely angst to the nth degree. I inhaled it in one sitting because I’m pretty sure my nerves couldn’t handle this dragged out any longer. And now that it’s over, I’m feeling like I need the next book, or I’ll just DIE. It’s like a soap opera, and the hour is done, and now I must wait for the next episode with bated breath.

Review: Charged by Jay Crownover

01 ab1 “Some of us are born into a storm and some of us are born to chase after it.”

I really enjoyed where Jay went with Avett’s story. We’ve seen bits and pieces of her before, and none of it was really good. She’s a trouble maker, and she knows it, but she has a hard time stopping. But when she makes an EPIC mistake and lands herself in jail, she realizes that she needs to make a change before something really bad happens to those she loves.

Enter Quaid Jackson. He’s been called in to be this little pink haired spitfire’s lawyer and he has no idea what he’s in for. At first, all he sees is the crazy hair and sassy mouth, but the more he talks to her, the more he realizes that she’s totally different from his first impression. She doesn’t want to put anyone out. She takes full blame for her past and wants to do anything she can to clear her name.

The chemistry between Quaid and Avett was undeniable. They say opposites attract and, if you look at the surface, these two totally did.

That girl…there was just something about her. She made you want to help her, to heal her, to protect her, even as she blindly chased after the very things that would hurt her, the things that would leave wounds on her body, mind, and soul.

Quaid is this super flashy lawyer, but if you look deep enough there’s a lot more to him. I think that’s why he was drawn to Avett. She’s this little pixie of a girl, who doesn’t care about all his flashy things. But at the same time, she thinks that they won’t work, due to the very different worlds they come from. I wanted to smack both of them, at some point. It’s not about what you have on the outside, it’s what’s on the inside that matters. They needed to work on that.

I really liked Avett. She’s young and stupid, but she’s real. She makes mistakes and owns them. I like that Quaid takes her for her. The road isn’t smooth for these two but no one ever life was easy.

This book had a few heart stopping moments and quite a few swoon worthy ones as well. Very swoon worthy. I completely enjoyed this book. There’s also a few side characters I wouldn’t mind seeing books about either. In fact, I may be willing to beg for them.

In conclusion, I just gotta say this, pink haired girls are cool. I may be partial, but it’s true.

Quaid
I tapped the edge of my thumb on the black-and-white mug shot photo and couldn’t stop the grin from tugging at my mouth.
She tried to fire me.
She was five-foot-nothing, a lifetime younger than me, had multicolored hair that had seen better days, wild eyes that couldn’t decide if they wanted to be green, gold, or brown, while dressed in convict orange and obviously scared out of her ever loving mind, yet she still tried to fire me. If it had been any of my other clients—the cop accused of sexual battery, the frat boy accused of manslaughter over a bet on a football game gone wrong, the middle school teacher accused of pedophilia and having an inappropriate relationship with several of her students, or the pro football player accused of domestic abuse—I would have tipped my proverbial hat, wished them luck while I cut my losses, and walked away without a backward glance. People always committed crimes. People always needed a good defense, so it wasn’t like I was hurting for clients, but there was something about the girl. Something about the defiant tilt of her chin and the raw desperation in her tone when she begged me not to call her father.
“I don’t want your help. I don’t want anything from you.” She sounded like she meant it when she said it, but I figured she was too young and too scared to know exactly what she wanted or needed. Regardless, it was still refreshing to hear.
Everyone always wanted something from me and my help was usually the least of it.
I tapped the picture again, wondering why I found it so easy to believe that she really hadn’t been a part of the boyfriend’s plan to rob the bar. She wasn’t anyone’s idea of a model citizen and she had the shady track record to prove it. She was too young, and frankly too adorable, to have a file this thick. From what I could see, she had a set of parents always willing to ride to the rescue when she got herself into trouble. She looked like some kind of colorful woodland fairy from a Disney movie with her odd hair and delicate features. None of it added up, but the sincerity in her tone when she said she would never have gone with the boyfriend if she knew his intent and the fear in her eyes when I mentioned her father seemed genuine.
I learned long ago to treat everyone like they were guilty of whatever it was I was paid to defend them against. I didn’t want to know the truth. I didn’t want to know the circumstances. I wanted my clients to listen to me and let me do my job as I tried to convince the rest of the world they were innocent, regardless if they were or not. But this girl with her faded, rose colored hair and turbulent eyes oozed innocence through the cracks of a very guilty façade.
Because I was intrigued and actually believed the girl might be innocent, I wasn’t going to let her fire me. I was going to call her father and hope that he would help me keep her out of the slammer while I figured out how to plea bargain her charges down or get them dismissed altogether. Again, because a cop was involved in the robbery and because the boyfriend, junkie or not, was offering up a pretty plausible explanation for Avett’s involvement in the crime, nothing was a slam dunk, yet. I was going to help her whether she wanted me to or not.

Review: The Bourbon Kings by J.R. Ward

01 aba Yep. This is going to be another fun series by Ms. Ward.

There is no better word, to describe this family, than to say it’s dysfunctional. I mean the stories and behaviors of these people are downright shocking! At one point I was cringing and then tearing up a bit. There are so many puzzle pieces that need to be found, it’s CRAZY!! I have so many ideas but when it comes down to it, I bet they’re all wrong. So I’m going to hold on tight and enjoy the ride.

I’ll admit I was a bit lost and confused with the first few chapters. I’m so used to the BDB, so learning new names and places was a bit daunting for me, but then I figured it out.

“I can’t change what happened and I know there’s no going back…all I ask is that you don’t fall for appearances, okay? You’ve had ten years around this family, but I’ve been with them and the people who surround them all my life. That’s why you’re the one I want. You’re real. You’re not capable of being what they are and that’s a very, very good thing.”

Watching the drama unfold was exactly like a soap opera would be. Intrigue, romance, lies, and above all, secrets. Lots and lots of secrets.

I can’t wait for the next book!!!

Review: Dirty by Kylie Scott

01 dirty “Do you believe in crazy at first sight?”
Lines creased his brown. “What?”
“I’m not down with the whole L-word and I don’t think this, whatever this is, is that. So don’t freak out and suddenly accuse me of being a stage-ten clinger or something, got it?”
“Okay.” He looked amused.
“But what if there was crazy at first sight? Because I think we have a credible basis for that.”

This book was most definitely Insta-crazy. I swear it takes place in the span of a couple weeks. CRAZY!! But it was a fast read and I did very much enjoy it.

I liked Vaughn instantly. Here was this girl, in his shower, in a wedding dress, and he doesn’t call the cops or freaks out., He listens to her and tries to help her out, all the while slowly falling for her. He has enough on his own plate, but there’s something about this girl that makes him want new things.

It was SUPER fun to see Mal, my favorite Stage Dive character pop in there!! Seriously. I read that entire part with a big cheesy grin on my face. I had no idea any of them were going to pop in.

Dirty was such a nice way to start this new series, Lighthearted and fun, with some sweet chemistry throughout it. I swear it’s been forever since I read a fun book that wasn’t over the top. If you enjoyed the Stage Dive series, you will definitely like this one.

Review: Wicked Need by Sawyer Bennett

01 wicked Well, if you’re looking for a super sexy book, with no holds barred BDSM scenes, then THIS is the book for you.

After Cat’s husband dies, she is told he left her nothing. After living the horrible life she’s lead, it’s hard for her to trust anyone. She has made some very bad decisions, just to stay a float, but now that everything is gone, she’s not sure how she’s going to survive. What she experienced, I wouldn’t wish that on my enemies. Horrible.

Enter, Rand, the part time fantasy maker and The Silo. He decides to help Cat out, for no other reason than he’s just a nice guy. Once he finds out her full story, he is determined to help her realize that none of her past is her fault. When I read his POV, I was quite happy to see how big his heart is. He brought a lot of emotion without all the tears. It was very nice to see.

Since they’ve been together a time or two, at The Silo, they decide to play around and soon they realize that what they have is more than just a fun. This actually could be real.

I knew Rand was a great guy. He’s super sexy and knows how to make a girl feel loved. I love the fact that he went out of his way, MILES out of his way, just to find some key puzzle pieces that were missing in her life.

And of course this had a hefty dose of sauce. Very HOT sauce. The kind that makes you step away and find your significant other. Whew! I can’t wait until the next one!!

Review: Bounty by Kristen Ashley

01 bounty There’s just something about a Kristen Ashley book that brings a smile to my face. Not sure if it’s the stories themselves or the many parts of them, but whatever it is, I fall a little bit in love with each of them. Between the scenery, romance, the emotional tone, and even the characters themselves, I am swiftly caught up in all the action and swept away on a happy cloud and left feeling emotionally full and content.

Justice is recovering from a loss and has chosen to do that in a fixer upper, in the Colorado Mountains. She plans on making this her happy place away from the rest of the world. She just wants to be her and not the Justice Lonesome, that the rest of the world knows. She’s done with that life and wants to find her “more.” She’s hoping the simpleness of Colorado will hold that in store for her.

Deke is a simple man. What can I say about him? I love him. We’ve read about him before. He’s proven he’s a good friend and strong man to have on your side. He doesn’t take crap from anybody. He’s always wanted more, but knew that he’d never get it. When he accepts a job to fix up Jus’ house, he had no idea that this woman was going to be the key to his “more.”

I think I felt a connection to this story due to the musical undertones. Something about the lyrics drew me in. I sit back and listen to the songs, that are named, and cry sometimes. I feel it deep down in my gut. I can’t put in words what this does to me. But what I can say that it adds an extra something something to it. Can’t place my finger on it, but it’s there.

In true Kristen Ashley form, Bounty was is beautiful love story filled with a pleasant slow burn that transformed into a hot and saucy romance. And of course it has a bit of confrontation and a hefty dose of family and friends. It makes me wish I lived in the mountains.

“I’m a lucky girl. Blessed. Given so much bounty, it’s almost embarrassing how much God likes me. But he really must like me because I have all I have and He also gave me you.”
