Review: The Lost Codex by Heather Lyons

codex I can’t believe this series is over. I just can’t. I’ve enjoyed watching these characters for so long and it’s very bittersweet to realize there’s no more to come. I may wallow in the depths of despair for a while.

There will be no spoilers in this review, so don’t worry. But make sure you’ve read the first three books before you read this.

The Lost Codex takes place immediately after The Forgotten Mountain. And we all remember how that one ended, right? It ended with lots of screaming and gasping and yelling. Or maybe that was just me. Well, anyways, I was anxious to start this book. My heart was racing and I could barely sit still. I needed Alice’s world put back the way it was. But in order to do that, she needed to take control and decide what’s best for her.

Without saying spoilers, all I will tell you is that this book caused tears, tears and more tears. I actually had to read a few scenes over and over again just to make myself comprehend what I just read. I couldn’t believe what happened. If I was Wonderlandian, my shirt would’ve been stained red from my broken heart.

The Collectors’ Society is in the battle of its life. This is what they’ve trained for. This final battle will ask more from them than ever before. Some lives will be lost while others will be changed forever.

Can Alice and Finn’s love hold them together? Will there ever be peace? Who is that blasted Librarian? So many questions will be answered, even if not in the way we want, they will be answered.

Preview and Giveaway: The Collectors’ Society Encyclopedia by Heather Lyons

I have mentioned before that I love Heather Lyons’ Collectors’ Society. It’s basically an adult themed fairy tales. Think Once Upon A Time, but much better, AND in book form. Action, adventure, romance, and all the things fairy tale. If you like adventures and romance, you must try this series. Another cool thing about this series, well at least to me, is that one of the characters is named after me. I have a bit of crazy in me. And for those who know me personally, being portrayed like that, in a book, isn’t that far off from my reality. 😉

For those previously introduced to the mysterious Collectors’ Society and its mission, eager to discover more, The Collectors’ Society Encyclopedia is the perfect full-color companion piece to the series. Within are detailed entries elaborating upon various agents and employees as well as key villains suspected of targeting and destroying Timelines. Backstories, relationships, secrets, and clues are revealed alongside a thorough bibliography of important Timelines and their designations. Profiles are also included of the Institute in New York City as well as Wonderland. Society fans and lovers of classic literature will undoubtedly delight in unraveling the secrets that lay within these pages.

Review and Giveaway: The Forgotten Mountain by Heather Lyons

01for Oh my word….

This book takes place immediately after the previous one, The Hidden Library, and we all know how THAT one ended. Yelling, screaming, and a whole lot of “Oh No!!!” So be sure to read the first two books, The Collectors’ Society and The Hidden Library, before you venture into this one. You can thank me later.

SYNOPSIS
After years spent in Wonderland, Alice Reeve learned the impossible was quite possible after all. She thought she left such fantastical realities behind when she finally returned to England.

Now Alice has become a member of the clandestine Collectors’ Society, and the impossible has found her again in the form of an elusive villain set on erasing entire worlds. As she and the rest of the Society race to bring this mysterious murderer to justice, the fight becomes painfully personal.

Lives are being lost. Loved ones are shattered or irrevocably altered. Each step closer Alice gets to the shadowy man she hunts, the more secrets she unravels, only to reveal chilling truths. If she wants to win this war and save millions of lives, Alice must once more embrace the impossible and make the unimaginable, imaginable.

Sometimes, the rabbit hole leads to terrifying places.

Emotions runs high as Alice and her friends try to a way to heal their loved one all the while still searching for the evil mastermind who is determined to destroy their worlds, one at a time. Alice will be forced to trust her instincts and do whatever it takes to make this happen. A lot is riding on her shoulders, this time, but she is up for the task.

They’ll meet all sorts of new characters, some which turn out to be allies, while some enemies. Alice has to take so many risks, but she’s the only one who can do this. I love seeing the traditional characters in a new light. You may think you know them, but you really don’t. I love seeing which fairy tale characters pop up in each book. It brings back so many childhood memories seeing them here. The craziest thing about this book is that one of the characters is actually named after me. She is CRAZY. And I love her.

Heather has a way of spinning the “normal” fairy tale world into something way more complex and exciting. These are most definitely not your children’s stories. And this next addition is no exception. The Forgotten Mountain was filled with loads of excitement and adventure, a nice dose of romance and friendship, and of course, a nice sprinkling of “Oh no!!” Now I must sit here and wait patiently for the next book. I wonder if Mary has something to help me…..

Review: The Hidden Library by Heather Lyons

01 hidden “True love does not have limits or restrictions. True love allows a person to love deeply and unconditionally. True love does not ask you to let go of life. True love encourages you to live.”

Oh my word. I have missed these characters so very much. I was ready to dive in as soon as this book hit my kindle. From the very beginning I realized this book was going to be filled with more action and adventure than the first book. I was right. The Hidden Library was filled to the brim with romance and adventure, and mysteries and secrets. A twisted tale of love and loss, mixed with hope and friendship and sprinkled with heroes and villains.

SYNOPSIS
Alice Reeve and Finn Van Brunt have tumbled into a life of secrets. Some secrets they share, such as their employment by the clandestine organization known as The Collectors’ Society. Other secrets they carry within them, fighting to keep buried the things that could change everything they think they know.

On the hunt for an elusive villain who is hell-bent on destroying legacies, Alice, Finn, and the rest of the Society are desperate to unravel the mysteries surrounding them. But the farther they spiral down this rabbit hole, the deeper they fall into secrets that will test their loyalties and pit them against enemies both new and old.

Secrets, they come to find, can reveal the deadliest of truths.

Holy adventure, Batman!!! This book was one adventure after another. And as they discover one secret, another pops up. Soon you’re so caught up and making presumptions that are totally wrong. Just when we thought we knew the story, we get slapped with secrets we never saw coming.

I love the timelines. I was never a reader, so to get a little glimpse of the classics, makes me so happy. It makes me wanna curl up with a copy of Alice or Finn’s books.

In the midst of trying to find the destroyer of the legacies, Finn and Alice discover that their feelings are stronger than they ever thought they would be, but they keep it secret til it was almost too late. I seriously love Finn. But I gotta admit, I still have a soft spot for the White King. I am torn between the two. They both are good for Alice, but there can be only one.

“Courting is meant to endear lovers to one another. I am already hopelessly attached to you, Finn Brunt.”

From one chapter to the next, you will get pulled in the legacies themselves. I felt like I was living in them. It was the perfect continuation. PLUS, you get dual points of view. We get to see what Finn and thinking and feeling, which makes some parts of the story more heartbreaking, and therefore more exciting to me. And that ending?!?! I hope Ms. Lyons can write fast, because I’m not sure how long I can hold out. My heart can only take so much.

The Collectors’ Society, by Heather Lyons

01collectWOW!!! A swoon worthy, tear jerking, adventurous fairytale. I found myself wide awake at 1am, because I needed to know what was going to happen. There was no sleep happening for me. This book was so exciting to read. I found myself on the edge of my seat, with such curiosity and nerves.

Synopsis
After years in Wonderland, Alice has returned to England as an adult, desperate to reclaim sanity and control over her life. An enigmatic gentleman with an intriguing job offer too tempting to resist changes her plans for a calm existence, though. Soon, she’s whisked to New York and initiated into the Collectors’ Society, a secret organization whose members confirm that famous stories are anything but straightforward and that what she knows about the world is only a fraction of the truth.

It’s there she discovers villains are afoot—ones who want to shelve the lives of countless beings. Assigned to work with the mysterious and alluring Finn, Alice and the rest of the Collectors’ Society race against a doomsday clock in order to prevent further destruction . . . but will they make it before all their endings are erased?

The relationship between her and Finn was so romantic to watch. He’s this crazy sexy man, who has a hard time trusting people, but finds a way to trust Alice. I loved watching them grow closer. He was her partner and guide through this world and she finds herself learning to trust him, little by little.

“After all that I’ve gone through, after all I’ve lost, I’ve finally found my true north star.”

They set out to save her world, and in the process you find out why it was so hard for her to leave. Let me just say that the White King…..swoon…and I was practically crying throughout all of his scenes. The emotional level was rocketing and I was NOT expecting that.

We are introduced to so many fairy tale characters, I was in love. I have always had a fondness for them. And this is the adult version. It was perfect all the way around.
Seriously, no words are good enough for this review. I am so excited to get this on my shelf.

Review: The Deep End of the Sea, by Heather Lyons

01deep Because you have to sink, to the deep end of the sea, in order to rise.

WOW! This book has left me speechless. I am completely shocked with what this book held between it’s covers.

This story is about Medusa. Now I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking Clash of the Titans or Percy Jackson. Well, you couldn’t be more wrong. But I’ll admit, part of me thought that way though. But this is about love and reinventing yourself. This book is about taking control of your life and not letting all the bad things hold you back.

Medusa lives alone on an island, away from everyone. She is cursed, for something she had no control over, and is to remain there for all of her life. She has scales all over her skin, snakes on her head and her eyes are the deadliest part of her. With just on look, and you’ll become a statue forevermore.

“I am a monster. The worst kind of monster. The kind that people have told stories about for thousands of year.”

But what you don’t know is that she hates being a monster. She never wanted this. She has compassion and cries for those who see her eyes. Medusa cares for those who catch her off guard. When she turns someone, her heart breaks for them. But she cares for them, the best she can.

If it wasn’t for her friend, Hermes, Son of Zeus, I don’t think she would’ve remained sane after being secluded all these years. Even though she keeps her eyes covered, he risks death every time he visits her. Hermes was the sweetest and most caring person. He would do anything to help her rid herself of this curse.

After a stroke of luck, and with help from a few gods, her curse is reversed, and she is thrust back into the land of the living. She must become stronger and learn to rely on others to help her. She is no longer alone. And soon she realizes that Hermes is no longer just a friend. Watching them fall for each other was so sweet. Medusa has no idea how to feel about her best friend. She is overwhelmed with crazy feelings and is shocked to find out that he feels the same way.

“I’m afraid I fell in love with you shortly after we met. I told you last night you fascinated me from the very beginning. The more I got to know you, the more I found myself falling…”

And just when things seemed all calm, the past turns up and is ready to destroy everything she has worked so hard for. Again, she must learn to rely on herself and her new friends to help her through is horrible time. Dusa must be strong and remember that the past does not shape her future. She can be strong and take control of her life.

“…Violence is not picky when it comes to victims…We are part of a group no sane person wants to join, and yet we are members anyway…There is no way to exit the group once we’ve joined; all we can do is try not to let it define us.”

I will admit, the last 20% of the book had me reeling. My emotions were all over the place. The love story devastated me. And then there was a twist I never saw coming, but it made the story even more beautifully tragic. I struggled with finding the right words to use to describe this book. Nothing seemed right. This was another post that I should have just written, “Read it.” This was definitely not your usual Greek Mythology story. It was so much better than that.
