Preview: Hope Flames, by Jaci Burton

15808325 This book doesn’t come out til Tuesday, but I was so excited, I just had to tell you about it. I was lucky enough to win a copy of Hope Flames ARC and must admit that I’ve never read a book by Jaci. I’ve heard of her, and many of my friends have told me to read her, but I just haven’t. But that all changes now. Because if all her books are like this one, I will be a very happy camper.

Emma Burnett is beginning her life again, after coming out of a disastrous relationship. She decides to go to college and become a vet. She moves back home and buys a local vet clinic and is determined to live her life without a man to muddle it up again. She wants her independence and doesn’t want anyone to make decisions for her.

Luke McCormack is the super hot, super single, cop who is happy in his life. He has no need for relationships, after his disastrous divorce.

They first meet each other when Boomer, Luke’s police dog, needs medical attention, after injuring himself on a police chase. There is instant chemistry between Luke and Emma, but Emma is quite skittish, so Luke decides to be friends with her only.

I totally fell in love with Luke after seeing him care for his dog. I mean, who can pass up a hot guy and a cute dog??

Seeing them try to remain friends only, was quite amusing. It seems that even Luke’s brother, Logan, and Emma’s parents saw what was happening before they did.

There was a good amount of romance and a bit of suspense sprinkled in. I was quite happy with this and I can’t wait til the next one comes out. I want to hear about Logan. I just know something good is going to happen for him.

Would you die for the one you love?

Nixon Abandonato made his choice. And now he has to pay the price. Tracey is the love of his life, but being with him has made her a target of his family’s enemies. The only way to keep Trace alive is convince the world she means nothing to him.

Trace Rooks has fallen irrevocably in love with the son of her family’s sworn rival, and she knows in her bones nothing can tear them apart. Until Nix suddenly pushes her away and into the arms of his best friend… But Trace isn’t ready to give up on a future with Nix–and if he won’t fight for them, she will.
In the end, a sacrifice must be made. A life for a life. For what better way to cover a multitude of sins than with the blood of a sinner . . .

“I feel lost”
“Let me find you.”
“I feel sick.”
“Let me heal you.” I kissed her head.
“I feel sad.”
“Let me be your happiness.”

WOW!! What a ride! This is like The Godfather for young adults. I highly recommend reading Elite first, otherwise you’re missing out on basically everything. It’s written from many different point of views. I liked seeing how Nixon and Chase, and even Phoenix handle the pressure and stress of living in a mob, and knowing that your days are numbered.

Nixon loves Tracey, and has for his entire life. But loving her has now put her in grave danger. The only way to keep her alive is to push her away. But what’s even harder, is that he pushed her towards his best friend, Chase.

Chase loves Tracey, but he knows he can’t really do anything about it. He is loyal to his friend. But he will do everything he can to protect her, even if it means convincing her to choose him.

Tracey loves Nixon and doesn’t want to be left behind. She wants Nixon, but understands that he needs to do his job and protect her the only way he can. She know’s it hurts him to let her go, but he has to hold onto hope, that it will all work out.

“I’m going to apologize in advance, though.” Tracey sniffed as a tear ran down her cheek.
“Why are you apologizing”
Her eyes met mine. “Because I’m going to break your heart.”

Watching Trace with Chase and seeing how hard it was for Nix, was painful to watch. He was no longer living his life for himself. He was living, and willing to die, for her. But he needed to make some very difficult choices and watch his family deal with those choices.

Seeing the background on Phoenix, made me like him a bit more. I didn’t fully trust him, but I understood him. His days were truly numbered. 😦 In the end, he was a friend to Nixon, when he needed one.

Phoenix slapped me on the back. “If it’s any consolation, she clearly loves you.”
“How would you know?” I snapped.
…”The way she looks at you. It’s different than how she looks at Chase.”
“And how does she look at Chase?”
“Like he’s her savior,” Phoenix said softly.
“And me?”
“Like you’re her oxygen.”

I was dying for the situation to be resolved, so that Nix and Trace could be together! I was starting to get a bad feeling about have way through. But I had faith it would all work out. Trace had no choice but to go towards Chase, even though her heart wanted another.

“You have my heart, but Nixon…he owns my soul.”

*heart breaking*

When it was all said and done, hearts were broken, lives were taken, but the truth came out. None of them will be the same after this, but they know if they have family, they can get through anything. There was a bit of a twist in the end, so I’m curious as to what will happen in the next book. I’ve got a feeling, but I’m gonna keep it to myself. 😉

Review: Infinite Possibilities, by Lisa Renee Jones

“You are infinitely mine.”

OK. So if you haven’t read Escaping Reality, stop right here and go read it first. I’ll wait…..

Done? Good. This book starts off right where ER left us. Amy just left Liam and is on the run trying to figure out what happened to her family. She doesn’t fully trust him, even though she’s be alone for so long and was hoping she could trust, but that’s not what happens.

So she tries to hide and keep moving so Liam, and whoever else, can’t find her. But he is one determined man and will do anything to find her.

“Run to me, not from me.”

He finds her eventually, only to lose her after a major twist in the story. I honestly never saw this coming. But Liam won’t give up. He is out to prove to her that she is everything to him and that he needs her just as much as she needs him.

She starts to have more and more flashbacks, which give a glimpse on some of the people from her past. She learns that the answers to many of her questions, were right in front of her, but her brain blocked them. But as she learns more about her family, she finds more unanswered questions.

But as the puzzle pieces started to be put back together and her life may actually start over, she still faces guilt over the deaths of her family, even though it wasn’t her fault. That is the reason she can’t move on. She knows there’s more to them and she doesn’t want Liam involved. It could lead to his death and she’s had enough death in her life. She can’t survive anymore. But that man is stubborn and shows her that she is his and he will always be there for her.

“When our eyes met in that airport, I saw another lost soul. And baby, you will never be alone again.”

I was so hoping that this would wrap up Amy’s story, but it didn’t. I understand why it can’t. The next book will be about the twist. And what a twist it was. And I’ll say it again. Never.saw.it.coming!! And that leads to the craziest epilogue. I want the next book NOW!!!

Review: Shades of Gray(KGI#6), by Maya Banks

I just love these big alpha men!!! This series is full of them. So far there are 7 books. The 8th will be out in December, and I can’t wait!!

P.J. and Cole compete all the time. I was hoping all the competitiveness was a cover for romance. I’m so glad I was right. It seems this has been a long time coming.

The day after they finally give into their desires; which, by the way, was super HOT, they get called back out on a mission. Cole wasn’t a fan of this mission, but P.J. wasn’t about to let him make the call after one night with him. She should have listened to him.

The mission went unbelievably wrong. I was devastated. The men, on the team, were devastated. Cole was heartbroken. And P.J.? She was destroyed……

She decides to quit the team and go off on her own mission of retribution. She doesn’t wanna drag her team down with this dark path she is heading down. She can’t function any more, until payback has been given.

But Cole doesn’t give up on her. He knew, from the moment he laid eyes on her, that she was gonna be his. Now he had to find her and bring her back and help her get better.

After six months he finds her and is determined to bring her back to herself and help her heal.

“I’ll wait as long as it takes, P.J. I’ll do whatever I can to help you. Whatever it takes for you to heal physically and emotionally. Just know that I’m not going anywhere, and it’s time for you to stop running.”

It’s takes a lot of patience, and love, to show her that she belongs to Cole and the KGI family. No matter what happens, this is her family now and they won’t turn their backs on her.

“I’ll always have your back, P.J. You’ll never have to look far to find me.”

If you can get past the mission scene, the rest of the book is smooth sailing. Just a word of warning. 🙂

Review: Headed For Trouble by Suzanne Brockmann

imageThis a thorough compilation of short stories, interviews of her characters by Brockmann, and a Q&A of the author from her popular Troubleshooters series. The Troubleshooters series involves Navy Seals, FBI and a civilian black ops organization. Included at the beginning is a timeline which lists when the short stories and interviews take place. It also lists hero & heroine of each book, brief storyline, secondary romance and timeframe. At the end is a glossary of terms. Like I said, thorough.

There is one new short story, “A Seal and Three Babies,” which feature Sam & Alyssa, Max& Gina, and Jules & Robin. The short stories mostly feature Sam, Alyssa & Jules. So if you are fan of the series & of these characters, you are in for a treat. My favorite story of the bunch doesn’t actually include any of them.

The story I love best is “When Jenk, Izzy, Gillman and Lopez Met Tony Vlachic.” It’s humorous story that involves great guy talk and a poker game.

I would only recommend this book for fans of the series. I have not read Brockmann in years. While I was reading this book, her engaging voice reminded me why I love the TS series. Chances are, I will read her new book set in the TS world that will be released next year.

This ARC was provided by the publisher via NetGalley.

I must say, I am really enjoying this series. I honestly don’t know if this is the last, or not. It ended, and yet it didn’t. But Chris and Sara’s story ended….sorta. I know it say trilogy, there is no way LRJ can leave us hanging like this!!

OK, after I typed all this out, Ms Jones posted on Facebook this: 4 is the trial and it is in Sara’s POV — you get final answers to Rebecca, Ava, more Rico, and yes ….. and Chris and Sara face this all together. Mark must face the trial and Crystal might show up:)

Book 5
Mark’s POV and you will know by the end of 4 where it’s going

Spinoff Series

Ella! Can’t wait. I’ve had this planned FOREVER– COMPLETE different story line

It takes place the same day as Being Me ended. Chris is leaving for Paris and he gave Sara the option of going with him or not.

She goes.

Chris tells her that only in Paris will she find out all of his secrets. But he warns her that only he will tell her. She should listen to no one else. And believe me, there are plenty of people that are trying to tell her who he really is. She falls into too many traps and believes too many wrong things. But Chris brings her back and show her who he really is.

I kinda had a feeling his past would creep up, and I was right. Sara is confronted with women who helped him when he needed pain and she’s trying to believe that he doesn’t need it anymore. But it’s really hard believing that when it’s in her face since they showed up.

They are also trying to find Ella, which turns out harder than she ever imagined. There is a side of her friend that she never expected.

Ava has turned the tables on Sara and is trying to blame her for Rebecca’s death. Chris, with the help of Mark, are trying to get it all straightened out.

The twists and turns this book had, made me a wreck.

And don’t get me started on the Epilogue….. I screamed. Not my proudest moment. After reading that, I realized there HAS to be another book. There just has too…….

I received this ARC for my honest opinion. And my opinion is that it was awesome! And you must pre order it.

Review: Exposed by Laura Griffin (Tracers series)

After Maddie Callahan finishes her freelance job, she is mugged and her camera is stolen. She is interviewed by both the police and FBI agent Brian Beckmann and his partner. Across the street from where Maddie was doing her shoot, a key witness in a federal investigation was kidnapped.

Maddie is a little agitated with having to answer the questions (again) because she needs to be at a crime scene of a homicide. She’s a forensic photographer for the Delphi Center.

Maddie became a forensic photographer after the tragic death of her young daughter. Her marriage fell apart because of the tragedy. After many years, she’s still grieving, understandably, and unwilling to let anyone close. Especially not someone like Brian, who is younger than her.

This book book is heavy on the action. I was riveted from the start and read this in one sitting. Amidst the action of solving the complicated puzzles of the case, there is a romance between Maddie and Brian that is woven well. Maddie is reluctant and I appreciated Brian’s patience with her. I believed in their HEA.

Exposed is the 7th book in the series. There are recurring characters that work in the Delphi Center but you do not need to read the previous books to understand this one.

This another winner in this series. I look forward to the next one, which I just found out won’t be out until February 2014.
